Dopo cento anni dalla rivoluzione russa questa mostra prende in considerazione uno dei periodi piu’ turbolenti e travagliati della storia russa. Dall’avvento di Lenin, alla guerra civile tra Rossi ( Comunisti ) e Bianchi ( Zaristi ) fino all’ascesa al potere di Stalin si sono cimentati vari artisti tra cui spiccano principalmente Kazimir Malevich e Vasily Kandinsky. La Rivoluzione fu voluta non dal popolo, ma – come afferma Luigi Mascili Migliorini, dopo attenta valutazione dei filmati dell’epoca – da numerose frangie di disertori dall’armata rossa.
L’ arte e’ fortemente condizionata dalla politica che pretendeva la raffigurazione dell’ ideologia comunista. Inizialmente un’ avanguardia di artisti abbraccio’ la Rivoluzione, ma poi gli stessi vennero condannati dalle autorita’ Sovietiche, che imposero uno stile facilmente comprensibile dalle masse.
Dopo la morte di Lenin 1924, Stalin punto’ all’espansione della produzione industriale e conseguentemente gli artisti furono incoraggiati a promuovere l’ industria ed a magnificare i super eroi ovvero gli stakanovisti. Di fatto molti lavoratori furono ridotti in schiavitu’ e gli scioperanti o lavoratori fiacchi vennero giustiziati. Migliaia morirono per assideramento o incidenti sul lavoro.
In agricoltura fu introdotta la collettivizzazione. Per protesta agricoltori disperati distrussero le scorte e gli strumenti di lavoro. Malevich dipinse agricoltori felici che sorridevano guidando il loro trattori. Di fatto milioni di contadini persero la vita.
Fu abolita la proprieta’ privata, nazionalizzata l’industria e chiuse le principali banche.
Finalmente nel 1921 Lenin varo’ un piano quinquennale liberalizzando nuovamente la vendita dei prodotti agricoli, il commercio privato e l’economia comincio’ a riprendersi.
Nel 1928 Stalin pero’ tese alla piena industrializzazione del paese attraverso il totale monopolio statale. L’ esaltazione dello sport avrebbe garantito la grandezza della nazione e assicurato la salute del corpo. L’arte fu quindi soffocata dalla stretta censura esercitata dall’Unione degli artisti Sovietici
