Considerato obsoleto e impossibile da coniugare senza errori, è lo spauracchio degli studenti e di chi tenta di imparare la nostra lingua. Persino fra gli studiosi e i docenti c’è chi crede sia meglio rassegnarsi alla sua scomparsa. In aperta controtendenza, Valeria Della Valle e Giuseppe Patota si sono impegnati a confutare due convinzioni tanto diffuse quanto infondate: che il congiuntivo sia morto, o moribondo, e che sia difficile. Dopo aver dimostrato, attraverso una veloce scorribanda nei vari campi della comunicazione, che il congiuntivo gode in realtà di buona salute, gli autori offrono una ricca serie di informazioni e curiosità su questo modo verbale tanto discusso: la storia, gli usi e gli abusi, i motivi che lo hanno reso impopolare e, naturalmente, le regole che permettono di utilizzarlo senza incertezze.
